Hillview’s Media Specialist, Mrs. Valerie Munro is eager to help Hillview students develop a passion for reading! She is here to serve students and teachers by finding the resources they need to learn all they can.
The Media Center houses more than 12,600 fiction and non-fiction titlesand audio books. Our materials are easily accessed through our automated Opals circulation system, and Lexile and Accelerated Reader titles are identified by their special labels.
The Media Center is open daily for students during Library Lunch. It is a great time to find a cozy spot to read, use one of our Chrome Books, take an Accelerated Reader quiz or use the Maker Space! Many students also enjoy playing chess during Library Lunch. The Media Center hosts an annual Chess Tournament for all interested students each year!
Fifth graders are invited to participate in the Battle of the Books program.
Each class in the school is scheduled for a class in the Media Center one day per week. Students use this time to learn information skills and technology.
With the support of our generous Home and School Association, we also offer many school-wide programs during the year such as author visits, Dinovember. The Poetry Cafe, Election Day, the Starbooks Cafe during Read Across America Week, reading incentive programs, the annual Library Hall of Fame Contest and special nighttime literature celebrations like “Bedtime With Bookwormy”, "The Girl Who Grew Nasty Things", “Let's OWL Read Together” and many more!
We have many opportunities to become involved in the Media Center program at Hillview. Please visit the links to see how you can help to encourage our students’ love of reading and learning by being a Library Volunteer or a member of the Hillview Bookworm Committee!
